Historic Cooktown in a day

Cooktown lies on the shores of the Endeavor River and is one of Australia 's last frontiers and most historically significant townships. While in Cooktown, visit the world class James Cook Museum and discover the diverse history of this Coastal town. Walking trails surround Cooktown's Heritage and scenic rim and most attractions are within easy walking distance. Cooktown is the closest Australian town to the Great Barrier Reef and with its pristine rivers offers some of the best fishing available in Australia . A modern fleet of commercial fishing boats utilise the wharf facilities together with game fishing diving boats, poised to take visitors to the Great Barrier Reef . Visiting yachts sit lazily on the Endeavor River that meanders off into the distant mountains where majestic tropical fauna drapes the river banks and calls of exotic birds break the silence of upstream tributaries where salt water crocodiles lurk in the shadows.
