SOUTH AUSTRALIA

Southern Australia covers the area from the Nullarbour plains in West Australia through most of South Australia, all of Victoria and all the way to New South Wales. The main features of this part of Australia are the following places:

The Flinders Ranges and South Australian Outback. Here you discover and ancient land filled with startling colours, amazing wildlife and stories as spellbinding as the location itself.A place where the power of the Aboriginal Dreamtime is strong, where specious opal gems lie hidden in a moonscape of red rock, and where the word 'adventure' has real meaning. For those seeking an escape from life's noises and stress, the silence, space and sheer beauty of the Outback will surprise and seduce you. Tours to see this outback part of Australia start from Adelaide or Alice Springs in the Red Centre and takes several days. One of the most unusual places where these tours go is Coober Pedy, the opal capital of the world. A unique 'underground' town in the heart of the outback. Much of the town's accommodation, like many of it's homes, churches and businesses is built underground to avoid the desert heat.
